Schwester Lucille Toth

“The Lord is my light and my salvation.” (Psalm 27:1)

Sister Lucille Toth, (formerly Sister Marie) died
at the age of 96 at Divine Redeemer Motherhouse.
She, who had only one desire in her life which was to give
her entire life and heart to God, was welcomed home
by her Redeemer on July 15, 2022.

Sister Lucille (Lucille Elizabeth),
the daughter of Emery and Margaret Toth was born in Cleveland,
Ohio on November 23, 1925, the youngest of a large family.

Sister Lucille entered the Sisters of the Divine Redeemer in 1944
and professed her vows 2 ½ years later.
She received her B.S. degree in Education from St. John’s College
in Cleveland and began teaching Grade 1 in 1946
at Little Flower Orphanage in Darby, Pennsylvania.
She went on to teach for 25 years in Ohio, Pennsylvania,
and New York—all grades except Grade 2.
Her favorites were fifth and sixth graders.

Sister Lucille then attended Robert Morris Business College (Pittsburgh).
She served in the business office at Divine Redeemer Memorial Hospital
in South St. Paul, Minnesota and at Little Flower Manor in Darby, PA.
While at the hospital, she had the privilege of caring for her older sister,
Sister Cecilia (formerly Sister Eulalia) when she was dying.
After this Sister Lucille served as treasurer at Villa St. Teresa in Darby, PA.
She retired in 2005 and returned to the Motherhouse
where she helped ou at the reception desk.
As her health declined, she continued to serve by offering
her sufferings and prayers for the needs of the Church,
the Holy Father, and especially for seminarians.

Her source of inner strength was her devotion to the Blessed Trinity,
the Holy Spirit, the Sacred Heart of Jesus, and Our Blessed Mother.
St. Lucille, her patroness, was greatly loved.

On the lighter side, Sister enjoyed reading,
following comic strips in the newspaper, watching “Jeopardy”
and “Little House on the Prairie”, and eating strawberries in any form.

May her prayerful spirit, go to the Lord “On Eagle’s Wings”,
as the lyrics of her favorite hymn describe.
