Sister M. Magdaléna Podolinská
“For to me life is Christ, and death is gain.” (Phlp 1:21)
In the spirit of Christian hope, we announce that
Sister M. Magdaléna – Magda Podolinská
Handed her life to her Creator on November 19, 2024,
at the age of 80 and the 50th year of her Profession.
Sister Magdaléna, was born on May 1, 1945, in Hnilec,
as the eldest daughter of the late Francis and Anna (Smoradová).
She had three siblings: sister Marta and brothers Stephen and Francis.
Sister Magdaléna attended the school in her native village. After graduation,
she worked in a big store and later in the office of the store.
At this time, she felt she wanted to fully live Christianity life.
She tried to attend Holy Mass daily, as she desired to be close to the Lord.
She loved to read the religious literature.
One time during a pilgrimage at Marian Mountain in Levoča,
the desire to consecrate her life to God and to enter an Order matured.
Her desire was fulfilled on April 13, 1973,
when she began her religious formation
in the Congregation of the Sisters of the Divine Redeemer,
although secretly. In the eyes of the state, she worked
as a layperson in the Institute for Mentally and Physically Ill, in Velehrad.
On August 23, 1973, she was admitted to Novitiate.
On September 9, 1975, she made her first Profession
and on August 21, 1982 her final Profession. In this time,
she attended the Nursing School in Uherské Hradište.
She graduated from Nursing in 1983. She stayed in Velehrad until 1990,
where she served with love to mentally ill people.
On December 1, 1990, a new path of her apostolate began.
Since the totalitarian regime fell, she worked in the Bratislava-Kramáre Hospital,
Neurology-surgical Department, then in Rohovské Rybky
in the Institute for Mentally and Physically Ill Children and Youth.
In 1993, she returned to Velehrad.
There she was the Local Superior for two periods of office.
In 2005, she retired and went to the Community in Raslavice.
In 2007, she became the Local Superior
for the Community in the Marian Mountain in Levoča.
Raslavice was her final community.
Sister Magdaléna was a quiet and balance person.
She brought peace and satisfaction everywhere.
She maintained good relationships among the Sisters
as well as laypersons with whom she collaborated.
Giving herself to God and neighbors, for the last ten years
she lived in prayers and the service to the community.
Last years of illness, which she accepted silently,
submissive and without complaint, she returned her life
to the hand of her Savior and Redeemer on November 19, 2024.
We thank Sister Magdaléna for her exemplary life
of the Sister of the Divine Redeemer.
May she rest in peace.
