Sister M. Atanázia Konečná
“For if we have grown into union with Him through a death like His,
we shall also be united with Him in the resurrection.” (Rom 6:5)
Sr. M. Atanázia – Emma Konečná
handed over her life to the Creator on December 8, 2021
at the age of 94 and 74th year of her Profession.
Sister Atanázia was born on May 11, 1928,
in Obišovce, near Košice.
Her father worked on the railway and her mother took care of the household.
She had two sisters.
She attended elementary and middle school in Obišovce.
She graduated from high school in 1945, in Levoča.
After graduation she decided to become a religious woman.
She entered the Congregation of the Sisters of the Divine Redeemer
on June 18, 1946, in Spišska Nova Ves.
On the dispensation of the Holy Father Pius XII,
she was admitted to the Novitiate on August 18, 1946, in Levoča.
She made her first profession on August 11, 1948, in Levoča.
She attended catechetical lessons in Košice
and then taught Religion in Levoča. However,
in 1950 education in the schools for religious women
was forcibly terminated.
Sister Atanázia was transferred to Prešov where
she worked in the Hospital.
There she graduated from nursing.
On August 1, 1957, during the night, younger Sisters
were forcibly taken to Children's Psychiatric Hospital in Hrani.
After seven years, she was transferred to Batizovce,
where she worked in the Institute for physically
and mentally sick as a nurse.
From 1991 to 2010, as a pensioner, she volunteered at a retreat house
at Marian Mountain in Levoča.
She spent her last years in the community of Vrícko.
The farewell for the deceased Sister will be on Saturday,
December 11, 2021, in Vrícko.
Holy Mass will be at 11:00 a.m. in the St. Bartholomew’s Church
followed by services at the local cemetery.

of the Sisters and believing people of God.
