“Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners
now and at the hour of death. Amen.“
In the spirit of Christian hope, we announce that
Sister M. Pia – Anna Vrabčeková
Handed her life to her Creator on October 7, 2024,
at the age of 73 and the 54th year of her Profession.
Sister Pia, Anna Vrabčeková, was born on May 18, 1952, in Liesok, Orava County.
She was raised in a Catholic, peasant family.
She had two siblings – older sister Mary and younger brother Matthias.
She attended school at her native village, Liesok.
Then she worked for a year in a wood production factory in Liesok.
In 1969, she entered the Congregation of the Sisters of the Divine Redeemer
in Velehrad. In the same year, she was invested, received the name, Sister Maria Pia,
and started the Novitiate. In 1970,
she attended "two years of nursing school" in Kroměříž.
Sister Pia made her First Profession on August 28, 1971
and her Final Profession in 1976 in Velehrad, where she worked for 21 years
in the Institution for Physically and Mentally Ill Adults.
In 1990, she was appointed the Novice Directress. In 1991,
she was appointed the Provincial Councilor. Until 2006,
she was repeatedly appointed to be a member of the Provincial Council,
and for two term offices, she was the Provincial Vicar.
She loved Ukraine. From 1993, she travelled countless miles
to support the mission of our Sisters – New Evangelization in Zhitomir and Uman.

After three years she retired and became one of the clients
because in this time she was diagnosed with a cancer.
Although she was in remission for a while,
after six years her health condition worsened.
Sister Pia accepted her illness patiently and bravely.
Her activity changed to prayers and sacrifice. Contentiously,
with prayers on her lips she finally handed her life to God.
Sister Pia loved our Congregation and each Sister was important to her,
as well as our mission. She was an excellent driver.
She was friendly to everyone. With her humor she made easy all difficult situations.
We thank our Sister Pia for the witness of her life in our Congregation.
May she rest in peace.
