Sister M. Stephanie Gruber

On the evening of that first day of the week,
Jesus came and stood in their midst
and said to them, “Peace be with you.”
Jn 20:19
At the time, when the Church prays Vespers,
Sister Mária Stephanie
Franziska Gruber
passed into a new life on April 10, 2026, in the Provincial House
in Eisenstadt, at the age of 97 and the 74th year of her Profession.
The work, like her biblical Patron Saint, Deacon Stephen, formed and filled the life
of our fellow Sister. For decades, she cooked in a Bishop residence
and thus contributed significantly to nourishing body and soul of women and men
in the pastoral ministry of the Diocese. She balanced her work in the kitchen
in Theresianum and later in the Provincial House, working in the garden.
With prudence and purposeful care, she strived to ensure that her flowers
and plants bloomed to the joy of many. In her old age, she accepted
her long-term physical sufferings and difficulties humbly and patiently,
with joy and equanimity. Now she can forever look upon the Lord as He is.
We thank our Sister Stephanie for her silent testimony of faith and fidelity
to her vocation of Sister of the Divine Redeemer.
May the peace of the crucified and risen LORD be with her!
The funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 18, 2026, at 10:30 a.m.
in the Chapel of the Provincial House, Eisenstadt, Kirchengasse 49.
On Friday, April 17, 2026, a prayer for our Sister will be held at 6 p.m.
in the Chapel of the Provincial House.
